Preparing for Driving Season: Site Readiness Tips

As we head into driving season, now is the time to prepare your site after months of snow, salt, and cold weather. Taking a proactive approach now helps ensure your station is safe, compliant, and ready to support increased customer traffic in the months ahead.

Emergency Spill Kits
• Ensure your site has emergency spill kits in stock. These are required by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and may result in a Notice of Violation (NOV) or Red Tag if unavailable during an inspection.
• Spill kits can be purchased through Source or Grainger if replacements are needed.

Power Washing
• Preparing for driving season starts with a clean site. Power wash your forecourt and canopy deck to remove winter salt and dirt buildup.
City of Chicago Reminder: Dealers located in Chicago are required to power wash their site twice per year. Be sure to keep receipts in case they are requested during an inspection.

Painting & Touch-Ups
• After cleaning, inspect islands, bollards, column poles, and the C-store exterior for areas that may need paint touch-ups following winter wear.
Paint Assistance: If you are unsure of the correct color or paint type, contact your Parent Marketing Representative or the Brands Fulfillment Team for guidance.

Dispenser Cleaning
• Dispensers often accumulate dirt, salt residue, and product stains during winter months. A thorough cleaning helps maintain a polished station appearance and enhances the customer experience as traffic increases.
